Keshavram Borah was born in 1889 in Salmora, Majuli to a rural family. He received his primary education in 1908. In the same year, he enrolled in the fourth grade of Jorhat Government High School. He passed his High School Leaving Certificate Examination from Dibrugarh with first division and enrolled in Science at Cotton College, Guwahati. He graduated with distinction from Cotton College in 1920.

In 1920, the Non-Cooperation Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi began throughout India. The British government offered a job to him. But Keshavram Borah refused to serve under the British. Majuli was full of agitation and the movement led by the revolutionary religious leader Sri Sri Pitambardev Goswami, the Garmuria Satradhikar, took a strong form.

Borah and his wife burnt all the foreign clothes received as dowry. He was imprisoned three times from 1921-1926. After his release from jail, Borah worked hard to improve the education system in Majuli. In 1924, he established an English School at Kamargaon, Majuli. He established this school and started the first English education in Majuli. In 1937, the school was moved to Kamalabari. This year, a permanent building was built at Kamalabari with the help of Auniati Satradhikar Hemchandra Goswami. In 1940, the school was renamed Majuli Auniati Hemchandra High School.

In 1962, Keshavram Borah played a prime role in the establishment of Majuli College, the first higher educational institution in Majuli, at Kamalabari amidst the floods. In 1962, amidst the devastating floods, 73-year-old Keshavram Borah went from house to house for collecting donations from the people of Majuli. He not only for education and freedom struggle, he also contributed to many things, especially in culture. Keshavram Borah died at the age of 82 on 11th October 1971.
